I don't want to make this a sad (or hell, even touching) blog at all, but I'm really, really bummed out right now because Montague Wines & Spirits in Brooklyn burned down this morning. Montague was my first real wine job, and I absolutely lucked out. Not only did I learn a lot from Jeff and Pete, but I made a very good friend in my customer Brian, and a sales rep got my the Chambers gig. I outgrew what I could learn at Montague, but I certainly wouldn't have been able to learn as much as I had without it. It was also a wonderful neighborhood; I used to kid around that I felt like the rock star of Montague Street because everyone was so friendly that I couldn't go to or from subway without stopping to chat five or six times. I loved it.
When did this happen? Was anyone injured?

Thursday morning; I don't think anyone was hurt, but the article doesn't say. Regardless, I'm so upset! :-(

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this! I hope everyone was ok.

Total bummer. :-(
Before going pro w/ Chambers St., I would generally get my fix at Heights Chateau, which was closer. But there were certainly plenty of times I'd end up at Montague after brunch at Theresa's.
Sorry to hear this.

Seth - I think they are reopening in a few weeks. There was a laundromat next door and apparently something caught fire in one of the dryers. A wine shop next to a laundromat is fantastic planning.
When Noel left Chambers, he was managing Heights Chateau. I've never actually been in there.
